To The Honorables:
Shri Narendra Damodar Modi, Prime Minister of India
Shri Sanjiv Khanna, Chief Justice of India
Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose, Governor of West Bengal
April 20, 2025
Respectable Sirs,
In painful necessity, we find it almost imperative on our part to draw your kind attention to the following incidents happened in West Bengal involving attempts to “Ethnic cleansing of Hindus.”
Since the introduction of The Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, by the Hon’ble Parliament of India, a large section of the concerned minority community of West Bengal initiated protest movements against the said enactment which ultimately resulted in brutal violence, the victims being the innocent members of the Hindu community.
Particularly, the Hindus residing in localities where they are minority are being targeted. Many incidents of brutal killing, torture, molestation, rape, destruction and looting of property, and eviction from property have been noticed. These incidents have become viral on social media and major topics in mainstream media.
The situation has become so gruesome that the Hindus of certain localities had to escape from their own residences to take shelter in other localities in adjacent districts. Just like what happened in Kashmir, the Hindus were compelled to take refuge in shelter homes.
A large section of the minority community belonging to other states of India happily accepted the said Act, realising that the same would create scope for development of the minority community. Hence, we have strong reason to believe that the genocidal attacks on Hindus in Shamsergunj and Dhulian of Murshidabad were pre-planned, a consequence of a malicious attempt to effect Ethnic Cleansing of Hindus.
The local administration and police authorities either remained inactive or delayed action, creating the impression that the local administrative authorities are serving the narrow political interest of the ruling party, at the cost of the safety of Hindus, resulting in the violation of their constitutional rights, including the right to survival.
We are fully conscious that registering protest is a democratic right, but what is going on in the name of a protest movement is clearly an infringement upon the constitutional rights of Hindus and a threat to their survival.
From reliable sources, we have come to know that plans to attack Hindus were framed in various religious institutions and places of worship of the minority community. We draw your attention to the fact that the stone pelting and extermination of Hindus is reminiscent of Kashmir in the 1990s.
Incidents of stone pelting during Ram Navami, Shivratri, Durga immersion, and desecration of Mandirs have continued in West Bengal over the last 7-8 years with terrifying regularity.
In 2014, the minority community opposed Saraswati Puja in schools in Barasat, North 24 Parganas. Around 300 Durga Pujas were stopped in Nalhati, District Birbhum as per reports from 2020–21 (The Print).
In Tehatta, Howrah, schoolgirls agitating for Saraswati Puja were lathi-charged and had to be hospitalised.
West Bengal was on fire and normal life was disrupted during anti-CAA agitations, allegedly with support from the State Government.
Certain leaders of the ruling party have instigated violence against Hindus. For example, the Mayor of Kolkata said, “Hindus are unfortunate to be non-Muslims, hence they have to be given ‘dawaat-e-Islam’.”
Other minority leaders openly declared that Hindus must submit to the will of Muslims for peace in the state—reminding us of Jinnah’s “direct action” call in 1946, which resulted in the Great Calcutta killings.
Hargobindo Das and his son Chandan were brutally murdered by Islamist jihadi mobs in their own home in Jaffrabad village, Shamsergunj, Murshidabad.
Hindu women were demanded as “maal-e-ganimat” and raped by 13–14 year old jihadi boys.
We ask: What is the real motive behind the anti-Waqf Act agitation? Are the destruction of Hindu homes and lives in Chapdani, Hooghly really part of a protest—or are we witnessing a Hindu genocide?
If this is not Ethnic Cleansing of Hindus, then what is its status?
In view of the absolute breakdown of law and order and prevailing jungle law in West Bengal, we humbly appeal to Your Authority to invoke the relevant provisions of the Constitution of India to direct the Government of West Bengal and/or relevant Central Government departments to immediately act to prevent the ongoing Hindu genocide and protect their constitutional right to survive.
With regards,
Yours sincerely,
Citizens and Friends of Bharat
